A touch mortal
By Leah Clifford

Not sure how I missed these books. The first has been out a year and the second is just about to be released. Will be hunting them out from the library. Libraries are brilliant and we don’t even have to pay to borrow such wonderful titles. The other option of course is to support your local bookshops which I do.

This is a dark, debut novel about life, death, and what lies in between. Eden is caught in a war between Heaven and Hell. She is also in love with a conflicted angel and has powers she shouldn’t have but powers that others want.

A touch morbid (Book 2)

Siren (Book 1)
By Tricia Rayburn

Vanessa is 17 and afraid of almost everything. Her big sister Justine has always been there to help. That is, until the day she jumps off the cliff in Winter Harbour and her body is washed up on shore the next day. Everyone thinks it is a sad and tragic consequence of the life she was leading but not Vanessa. Soon many more bodies wash up onshore, all young males, dead but grinning from ear to ear. Panic is rising in the small town and it is up to Vanessa and Justine’s boyfriend to find out what is happening. Sirens and secrets abound in this trilogy. The second Undercurrent follows Vanessa’s journey and the third is to be published mid 2012.

Two good fantasy novels

Juniper Berry : a tale of terror and temptation
By M. P. Kozlowsky

What she discovers is that they have been selling their souls, bit by bit to a silver-tongued creature in a terrifying fairy-tale underworld.
Good fantasy for primary school age.

This is not a trailer for a book but it is simply just too good not to show. If you ever wonder what happens to books in a bookshop at night then watch this clip.
A huge amount of work must have gone in to the making of this clip. Well done!

The flint heart
By katherine Paterson & John Paterson
Illustrated by John Rocco
Candlewick Press

“The universe is full of magical things, patiently waiting for our wits to grow sharper.”
This is simply gorgeous. The format with its clean white pages and wonderful characture illustrations is just delightful.
This is storytelling as it used to be. Very chatty language as if listening to a grandparent telling a good old yarn. This is fun fantasy for primary school aged children and those of us who just like a good story. One to keep!

The space between also published as Smoulder
By Brenna Yovanoff

Daphne is the half-demon, half-fallen angel daughter of Lucifer and Lilith. Such a combination can only mean trouble. Her brother Obie is kidnapped, forcing Daphne to leave Pandemonium and travel to earth to look for him. Archangels stand in her way but she is determined to find him. On her quest she begins to realise what it means to love but loving in a human world brings its own troubles. The cover of this book alone is enough to tempt you to read it. This is Yovanoff’s second novel. The trailer to her first book The replacement can also be found on this blog.

Born wicked
By Jessica Spotswood

Cate Cahill and her sisters live in a secret society. Everyone just thinks they are a little weird. The truth however is that the are witches. Their fate if anyone finds out they are witches coudl be devastating. How long can you keep a secret.

The one and only Ivan
By Katherine Applegate

Wow! This book just blew me away. Like others I have known who have read this, it will leave you in tears. Sad tears and happy tears. This is such a beautiful and well written story that you cannot help but be moved. Ivan is a Silverback gorilla, caged for almost as long as he can remember. When a baby elephant arrives at his animal mall, it soon needs protecting. Ivan has to step up and he does. Powerful and simply one of the best books. A must read if ever there was one. Review to follow in the review pages. Thanks to Zac for sending me this copy. I need another box of tissues now!

Sixteen year old Violet has a special ability. Dead bodies call out to her. They demand that she finds them. When her ability leads her to the body of a young child, the FBI take more than an interest in her. Soon she gets threatening letters and the only help, may just be from the FBI.

By Cynthia Hand

This is book two in the Unearthly series, by new author Cynthia Hand. See trailer below for the first book.
Clara is coping with the consequences of the choices she made in Unearthly.
Both of these trailers make me want to go out and buy the books straight away.

Clara found she was part-angel when she turned fourteen. Now she is having visions of a terryifying bush fire. Clara finds herself , two years later, with feelings for both Christian, the boy she meets who is from her visions, and her classmate, Tucker. When the fire becomes real both young men are in danger but who will she choose to save? This is the first book in the series.
