Blood of my blood
By Barry Lyga
Book three in the Jasper Dent trilogy
ISBN 9780316198707

Wow – Just wow. What a trilogy and what a ride. Having loved the series there was no way I was not going to read the final book. I sat glued to the pages and the lives of Jazz, his girlfriend Connie and best friend Howie. I needed to make sure they were safe and out of Billy Dent’s way. If you have read the first two books then this is a must read. Everything comes out in the end but what a body count to get there. The creeping sensation that Jazz may end up like his father, a serial killer like no other – well I can’t tell you what happens. It really is up there in terms of quality writing and intense suspense. Blood and guts aside, the what-if’s, and who did-it’s is tops.

“Jazz has been shot and left to die in New York. His girlfriend, Connie, is in the clutches of Jazz’s monstrous father, Billy–the world’s most notorious serial killer. And his best friend, Howie, is bleeding to death on the floor of Jazz’s new home.

Somehow, these three must rise above the horrors and find a way to come together in pursuit of Billy.

But then Jazz crosses a line he’s never crossed before, and soon the entire country is wondering: “Like father, like son? Who is the true monster?”

From New York City to the small town of Lobo’s Nod, the chase is on, and this time, Jazz is the hunted, not the hunter–while Billy Dent lurks in the shadows.

And beyond Billy? Something much, much worse. Prepare to meet…the Crow King.”
I have to wonder about how an author can come up with such a gripping story and be so realistic – brilliant series!

Here is a reminder of the first two books.
Book 2
The Game

Book 1
I hunt killers

Max is a delightful toddler learning to negotiate the world around him. He loves his dog, his bath and his wagon. In fact his dog’s antics and facial expressions are just adorable and a little mischievous. Max and his dog have little adventures; the kind every young child can relate to. There’s Max’s soft toy bear who falls in to trouble. There is a wagon full of toys and a lost cookie. Then of course, there is the fun of playing in the bath. These board books are gorgeously illustrated by Eva Eriksson. Text on one page allows the focus of the illustrations on the opposite page to grab our full attention. I love that there are no adults in the illustrations allowing Max his own little independence. These gentle and sweet stories will delight very young readers who will beg for them to be read over and over again.

Book of the dead
Tombquest : Book 1
By Michael Northrop

Scholastic
ISBN 9781743629246

“Nothing can save eleven-year-old Alex Sennefer’s life. That’s what all the doctors say, but his mother knows it’s not true. She knows that the Lost Spells — the most powerful piece of the Egyptian Book of the Dead — can crack open a door to the afterlife and pull her son back from the brink. But when she uses the spells, five evil ancients known as the Death Walkers are also brought back to life.

Now terrible things are starting to happen. Mummies are awakening. New York is overrun with scorpion messengers. And worst of all, Alex’s mom and the Lost Spells have both disappeared. Alex and his best friend, Ren, will do anything to save his mom and save the world . . . even if that means going head-to-head with a Death Walker who has been plotting his revenge for 3,000 years.”
And if that isn’t enough to whet your appetite then check out the adventures you can have online. You can build your own Egyptian maze, hide treasure and protect it with traps and more. You can even find out about the author too. Check it out here.

Dragon Knight : Fire
By Kyle Mewburn
Illustrated by Donovan Bixley

For all those children in your schools or at home, who love the Dinosaur Rescue books, this new series is also one they will love and want to dive in to with great speed. I know the Dinosaur Rescue series is never on the library shelves at school as the books are always out being read, enjoyed, and laughed over. This new series set in medieval times is about a boy who is half dragon and half knight. I am pretty sure you will find a heap of gross and snotty bits too which will have you laughing out loud. The humor, the adventure and the wonderfully funny illustrations by Donovan Bixley all add to reasons children will love this series. Another hit in the making!

Sometimes being half boy, half dragon gets really messy!
