These two trailers may be a little old but it is great to see a kiwi writer getting involved. In fact Brian Falkner’s trailer was  probably the first one that really got me interested.
Go Brian! Actually he did go – to Australia. But he is still a good old kiwi!

The Emerald Atlas : The book of beginnings
By John Stephens

Orphans, Kate, Michael and Emma find an enchanted atlas and are then hunted by a heartless witch and her undead warriors. This is book one of a trilogy and it is up to the children to save the world.

The power of six
By Pittacus Lore

This is number two in the series about 9 escapees from the planet Lorein. There are only six left forced to hide from the Mogadorians but one by one they are being hunted down and killed.
A great series and I just want to shut myself away and finish this.

Life : an exploded diagram
By Mal Peet

Very much recommended by reviewer B. Docherty in The Weekend Press 27-28 August 2011 as a “stunning novel about love during the Cuban missile crisis of 1962”.

Watch the trailer and see if the book is for you.

Monster Blood Tattoo : Lamplighter
Book 2 in the series about monsters by D. M. Cornish.

This has been around for awhile but still a great book.

Fifteen year old Cadell Piggot is being hunted by the evil Prosper English. All seems lost until joins the mysterious Genius Squad.

Michael Vey : Prisoner of cell 25
By Richard Paul Evans

This book is just out in the States so not sure if it is even on New Zealand shores yet but I am so intrigued.
The author suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome like the main character. It is number one in a series of 7 and apparently filled with tension, frightening villains but also hope.
Can’t wait to get a copy when it gets to NZ.
Love the trailer.

Chaos Walking trilogy

Patrick Ness

The series has done very well with a dedicated fan base. This is the last in the series. Check out his site to find more details of his other titles.

The book thief
By Markus Zusak
Loved this book. Borrowed a copy and then went out and bought my own. Hoping to read it again sometime soon.

The Skulduggery Pleasant series proves to be popular in many schools. Thanks to Sandra K. for this little gem. This is a great series for those boys who love to be scared and enjoy a bit of humour at the same time.

For more fun check out the Skulduggery Pleasant site and look at the other books in the series.
