Robin Hood

By Robert Muchamore

ISBN 9781471408618

Cover by Alessandro Taini

Very cool cover.

Author Robert Muchamore knows how to begin a good story and keep you reading.

Guy Gisborne is a gangster and not very nice at all. In fact, he is a thug. Robin Hood’s father speaks out about corruption in the town of Locksley and as punishment, he is framed with a crime and thrown in jail.  Robin’s mother died some time ago so with his father in jail, he and his brother Little John have no choice but to run. They become separated and 12 year old Robin ends up in Sherwood Forest where bandits, bikers and other groups live. There is danger at almost step.

This is a modern day Robin Hood and the first book is the gathering of the group. The book has everything. Pace, suspense, and plenty of action. There is computer hacking, heists and arrows. Lots of arrows. Secrets are revealed and friendships made.

Guy Gisborne is out for revenge after Robin attacks him. I won’t say what he does as I don’t like spoilers, but Gisborne got what he deserved. Robin is also out for revenge, for his father being in jail for a crime he did not commit.  There are good guys and bad, corruption and greed and a little humour too, in this first book in a new series by Robert Muchamore.

A thoroughly good and energetic read and I am already waiting for the next book. Sadly it’s not out until next year but I’m sure the wait will be worth it. A very good series for 10 up.

I love the trailer!

Sage Alexander and the Hall of Nightmares

By Steve Copling

Cool cover and so good to see such a lengthy book trailer to entice us readers into the world of Sage Alexander

It is always a good sign when the bulk of reviews are positive as it all adds to the desire to read new books. My current TBR pile is enormous and there are not enough hours in the day to read, but I do want to read this one. There are more books in the series being written and planned for publication which is also another good sign. So, do enjoy the trailer and see what you think.

After the Seven Princes of Hell escaped the underworld, becoming gods became their obsession. Spawned from the angels banished from Heaven, the Seven have lured the soul of man into their influence since the beginning of time. Supernaturally gifted angelic-human warriors – the Angelic Response Council – have been disappearing over the past thousand years, and their ranks grow thin.

Prophecy holds that in the Council’s darkest hours a boy will emerge, Sage the Warrior, divined to possess all twenty-two angelic gifts and become the Council’s ultimate warrior. He will seek out and destroy the Seven Princes of Hell one by one, and lead humanity away from the brink of their own annihilation.

The dark crowns

By Kendare Blake

ISBN 9781509804559

I absolutley loved Anna dressed in blood so I am certainly looking forward to this new book by Kendare Blake. Her writing grips you and drags you in to her worlds. Take a look at her website too with a very cool front page illustration. Suitably creepy and intriguing.

“Three dark queens
are born in a glen,
sweet little triplets
will never be friends

Three dark sisters
all fair to be seen,
two to devour
and one to be Queen

Every generation on the island of Fennbirn, a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown and each possessor of a coveted magic. Mirabella is a fierce elemental, able to spark hungry flames or vicious storms at the snap of her fingers. Katharine is a poisoner, one who can ingest the deadliest poisons without so much as a stomachache. Arsinoe, a naturalist, is said to have the ability to bloom the reddest rose and control the fiercest of lions.

But becoming the Queen Crowned isn’t solely a matter of royal birth. Each sister has to fight for it. And it’s not just a game of win or lose…it’s life or death. The night the sisters turn sixteen, the battle begins. The last queen standing gets the crown.”

Rabbit in red

By Joe Chianakas

Distinguished Press

Definitely one for young adult audiences/readers. If you are after a good scary story with heaps of blood and gore then this might just be the one for you. Not for the faint-hearted, I imagine. Well the end of the trailer certainly scared me!  And don’t read it at night just before you turn off the light unless you want nightmares.

Bill Wise has blood in his past, so he turns to horror films to wipe it clean. Jaime Stein has felt the betrayal of death, so she too takes refuge in the on-screen deaths of others. Now Bill, Jaime, and seventeen other horror-loving teens have gathered at Rabbit in Red Studios, the brainchild of eccentric horror producer Jay “JB” Bell, for the terror-filled, blood-drenched contest of their lives.
JB has presented this competition as a race between the best of the best that will reward the winners with cash, internships, and a career making the movies they love. But things aren’t always as they seem at Rabbit in Red, and soon life starts to imitate art. Will Bill and Jaime be strong enough to confront real horror to save their friends, or will they all fall victim to JB’s twisted plans?
